The 2012 Unification Camp- Strong Korea made by Us! held

The 2012 Unification Camp - Strong Korea made by Us!, sponsored by the Ministry of Unification and the Unification Education Council and hosted by the Unification and Culture Department (Co-chairpersons: Gi Hwa Shin and Hye Geon Song)  of WFWP, was held from July 25 to 26 at Yongpyeong Resort in Gangwon Province. It was attended by 88 fourth to sixth graders from multi-cultural families living in Gangwon and Northern Choongcheong Provinces.

Students toured the National Security Exhibition Center of the Unification Park in Gangneung, and saw a South Korean warship and a North Korean submarine, a presidential airplane, and so on. They also heard about the school life and everyday life of North Korean children through a lecture given by a New Settler lecturer from North Korea entitled ‘Yeonsa-gun Elementary School Story,’ and took the opportunity to satisfy their curiosity by asking questions about it.

In addition, through a Yute game held with hopes for unification under the title, ‘From Hanra to Baekdu,’ the participants had a chance to strengthen their teamwork while at the same time studying the names of regions in South and North Korea.

Through their team activities, the participants also created a national anthem and national flag for the unified Korea and made up four-line poems using the words ‘Unification of South and North Korea.’ They expressed that “North Koreans are not strangers to us, but they are our brethren and our neighbors” and that “we should prepare many new things for the unified Korea of the future such as a new national anthem and national flag.”

Afterwards, the VIP Teams that had worked the hardest during the one night and two days of the Unification Camp program were presented with the Peace Award and the Unification Award during the Closing Ceremony.
