18년째 장학사업을 펼치고 있는 (재)선학장학재단은 3월 26일(토) 오후3시 세계평화여성연합 4층 세미나실에서 100여명이 참석한 가운데 을 개최했다.

1993년 (사)세계평화여성연합 1800명이 넘는 어머니 회원들이 5억원을 목표로하여 모금운동으로 출발한 장학재단은 이후 꾸준한 노력의 결실로 2011년 올해 24억원의 재단기금으로 장학금을 전달하게 되었다.

이날 최영선 이사(선학장학)의 사회를 시작으로 김미주 운영이사의 경과보고, 정대화 이사장의 인사말씀, 유종관 사장(세계일보)의 격려사, 이현경 사무국장(선학장학)의 결산보고, 남춘홍 감사의 감사보고 후 장학증서 수여의 순서로 진행되었다.

이번 수여식에는 전국 시․군․구 기초수급자 및 서울시 교육청, 세계평화여성연합 전국지부, 원리연구회에서 추천받은 72명(일반장학생:68명, 의대생:4명)학생들에게 8천3백만원의 장학금이 수여됐으며, 이중에는 만학도와 유학생 및 미래 여성지도자 육성을 위한 특별장학생과 새터민 대학생도 포함되어 있다.

WFWP Sunhak Scholarship Foundation "Scholarships by a Mother's Hand"

The Sunhak Scholarship Foundation which has worked on providing scholarships for 18 years held the 2011 Sunhak Scholarship Foundation General Meeting and Scholarship Presentation Ceremony, on March 26 at the HQ Seminar Room.

The Sunhak Scholarship Foundation was initiated in 1993 through the donations of over 1,800 mothers among WFWP members, with the goal of raising 500 million won. It has so far steadily awarded scholarships amounting to 2.4 billion won.

Director Young-sun Choi of the foundation emceed the ceremony, and greetings and reports were given by Operations Director Kim Mi-ju, Chairman of the Board Jung Dae-hwa. Pres. Yoo Jong-gwan of Segye Times newspaper gave words of encouragement, Secretary General Lee Hyeon-gyeong and Auditor Nam Chun-hong gave financial reports. The ceremony concluded with the presentation of scholarship certificates.

The Foundation awarded scholarships of 83 million won to 72 students (68 plus 4 medical students) who were recommended by the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education, branches of WFWP nationwide and CARP. Among them were those who started their studies late, international students, special scholarships for future women leaders and refugees from North Korean.
