3월 4일, 뉴욕 UN본부에서 유엔 남녀평등권 실현을 위한 주요활동을 하고 있는 제57차 UN 여성지위위원회(CSW-Commission on the Status of Women) 병행포럼 및 오찬회의를 개최하였다.

제57차 UN 여성지위위원회(CSW) 병행포럼은 ‘폭력 앞에 여성들; 희망 길 찾기’라는 주제로  미국, 에티오피아, 네팔, 인도 등 4명의 전문 패널들과 함께 200여명이 참석한 가운데 진행되었다.

또한 오찬회의에서 H.E. 안토니오 구멘데 상임대표(UN주재 모잠비크 공화국)는  개회사를 통해 ‘새천년개발목표(MDGs3)를 성취하기 위한 여성들의 NGO역할, 성평등 증진과 여성의 역량 강화 ’ 라는 주제로 “여성의 역량강화가 바로 여성의 폭력 문제를 해결하는 키가 될 것이며 NGO들은 활동주의와 연구 조사를 통해 사회에 이러한 문제의 중요성에 대해 알리는 역할을 담당해야 한다.”고 설명했다.

이어서 문난영 세계회장(WFWP)은 환영사에서 “현재 일어나고 있는 모든 사회 문제들의 가장 큰 근본적 이유는 우리의 본질적인 신성을 잃어버렸고, 우리는 매일의 삶에서 신을 잃어버렸기 때문이라고 언급했다. 급변하는 세계의 변화 앞에 모든 인간이 하나의 지구촌 가족이 되어 세계평화를 이루기 위해서는 어머니와 같은 사랑과 평화, 그리고 봉사로서 새로운 시대에 부응해야 한다.”고 강조했다.

또한 UN NGO 위원회 로파 바너지 대표(유엔 여성⁃시민사회 부서)는 ‘새천년개발목표 (MDGs)를 향한 과정’에 대한 주제발표에서 양성 평등을 성취하기 위한 책무로써 2015년 까지 법안을 개발을 강조하며, 여성의 권리를 얻어내고자 하는 강한 목표가 필요하다고 했다. 또한 이러한 목표들을 이루기 위해 차별법과 불평등을 야기하는 사회적 기준과 다양한 정책들을 없애야 한다고 제안했다.

The 57th NGO UN Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) Forum parallel event and Luncheon Meeting Hosted

On March 4, International President Lan Young Moon hosted the 57th UN Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) Concurrent Forum and Luncheon Meeting at the UN Headquarters in New York. The CSW carries out major activities for the realization of gender equality under the UN.

The 57th UN-CSW Concurrent Forum were held under the title of 'Women Standing Up to Violence: Finding Ways Through with Hope and Connections'.

There were total 200 participants and in the forum four expert panelists participated from USA, Ethiopia, Nepal, India.

At the luncheon meeting to Commemorate the 57th Session of the Commission on the Satus of Women, H.E. Antonio Gumende (permanent representative of Mozambique to the UN) delivered the opening address, under title of 'The Role of Women’s NGO in Achieving MDG # 3, Promote Gender Equality and Empower Women'. He belives that solving violence against women is central to women's empowerment. The NGO's role is important to question myths throughout society through activism and research.

Continually, WFWPI World President Lan Young Moon gave welcoming address. In her speech, she explain the fundamental level, the greatest reason for these day of social problems is that we have lost our original divinity, and we have lost God in our daily life. Also, she emphasized in order for all humanity to become ‘one global family’ and build a world of peace, leadership based on maternal love, peace, and service should answer to the demands of the new era.

And the guest speaker Ms. Lopa Banerjee, Chief Civil Society Section, UN Women gave her riveting speech on progress towards MDGs.

Especially, she insisted there be a commitment to achieve gender equality, moving forward into the post 2015 development genda. There should be strong goals to achieve women's rights. She suggested that these goals should get rid of discriminatory laws, social norms and various policies that create inequality.
